Today I dug out a jar of gesso. Hubs wrestled with it to get the lid off the jar. Its an old jar. Fortunately it was still wet and of a spreading consistency.
This card is inspired by CAS Mix it UP challenge. I am often learning a new technique with that challenge, and that is what calls me to the challenge. I chose a Hero Arts background stamp and applied the gesso. I then laid a panel on it to lift the pattern of the gesso. It was messy and I immediately went to wash off the rubber stamp and my paint brush.
After it dried, I added three shades of distress inks. Then I wiped off the panel with a damp rag. I was not fond of the panel once it dried so I decided to die cut some flowers from it. I used a layering die from Altenew. I also added a layer of polka dotted paper to the layers.
The flower is so heavy with pattern and color, I decided to lighten up the card with a pale corner stamping of an envelope liner patters, added white die cut leaves and a simple sentiment. I used the gesso resist, stamping, and diecuts.
I dislike tossing a project once started. This one took a lot of effort as it was so far out of my comfort zone. I am satisfied with the end result.
Thanks for visiting.

beautiful rescue - I know what you mean about working with a card until it's just right - my gesso is too dry and I'm not buying a new jar just for this challenge.
Great save Cat, thank goodness for flower dies! Love the colourful patterns paired with the soft corner stamping and white foliage, it's a lovely card, Cathy x
I have to say this looks really sweet and simple, but it doesn't exactly sound easy. I do love the look of the flower, but also the die cut leaves and the stamped background corner really set it off.
Great work Cat! Your gesso resist card is beautiful!! I LOVE the gorgeous layered flower you saved from your stamping. Adding the white leaves and the little detail in the top corner really makes this card special. Thanks for sharing with us at CAS Mix Up! xx

This is just great, a beautiful card. Well done for rescuing your gesso panel and making good use of it. The layered flower is wonderful and it looks great with the white highlights and the subtle background xx
You've turned something you didn't care for into something beautiful - nice job, Cat, it's very pretty and the corner inking definitely adds balance
Great job breaking out of your comfort zone!
I have to admit I threw out several of my attempts & never thought of die cutting them! Your flower is really pretty, as is the card!
Satisfied? Goodness, Cat, delighted is more like it ... what an awesome use of the un-liked gesso panel! The layered bloom pops so beautifully against the subtle background ... and is fabulous with those textured white leaves ... gorgeous! Hugs, Anita :)
