Happy Birthday

Hello-

This evening I played in a Hero Arts Scramble, they are now on Facebook in a private group. Its been a long time since I played.  It requires Hero Arts stamps, dies or stencils a limit of 90 minutes to create, photograph and upload a photo of your card.  Today's card took me about 45 minutes.  I wish I had cleaned off my craft table before starting...but I just shoved everything aside to give me a space for my mini misti.  I keep my vagabond out all the time so its always ready to die cut.

I used a couple of old favorite Hero Arts Stamps - Butterflies and the Brushstroke set. I don't have the exact names they have worn off their storage pouches.  The butterfly was stamped and colored, then the brushstroke was heat embossed with Rangers Liquid Platinum ep. The left side of the butterfly is adhered flat and the right side with just a thin bit of foam tape.  The sentiment from Sugar Peas was stamped and embossed and attached with more foam tape.  I added some gems in coordinating shades and the card is done.

Cindy's challenge to us was to use the sketch from Case this Sketch, and that challenge was on my to do list along with Watercooler Wednesday.  Yay, one card 3 challenges.

A long card

Hello -

Its another middle of the night crafting session.  I had forgotten about a Hero Arts Scramble over at their Flickr group. Fortunately the scramble was extended.  Scrambles are how I started with cardmaking and blogging.

The rules are the hostess provides the parameters for the card, and the participants must use Hero Arts products as the main focus and create, photograph and upload the photographed card to the Flickr site within 90 minutes.  This one took me around 50 minutes.

First I cut my cardbase, its a 7X7 square folded in half to make a 3.5 x 7 inch card. I added some tumbled glass distress ink with a brush to 2/3rds of the card.  After drying it, I added embossed flower bunches. Following that I heat embossed and die cut 3 small butterflies.  I added them to the base and put small pearls in the centers of each of the flowers.  The sentiment was added at the very end.  Thank goodness for the misti.

Black and Gold Scramble

Hi there, seems like its been forever since I posted...but only 4 days. They have been busy days though.

This morning I was able to play in a 24 Hour Hero Arts scramble over at the Hero Arts Flickr group.  The hostess gives us a theme and we have to produce our card, photograph it and up load it to the discussion thread.  We can work on our card anytime during the 24 hour period but may only use a total of 90 minutes from start to finish.

Today's theme was to use black and gold (neutrals like white and cream were okay as well) to make a card.

I chose Hero Arts Leafy Vine for my card. I love the lines of the sway of the vine - its so graceful and I thought it would be lovely in gold.  The photography was with me this time and the card shimmered and photographed well.  No sentiment nor additional bling needed to clutter up the front.

Scramble 154

As I was trolling through blogland this morning I found out there was a scramble over at the Hero Arts group page on Flickr.  So I hopped over and found the scramble was for 24 hours, and participants could pick any 90 minute period to make their cards. 

Karen's theme was: Make it Masculine, Decorate the Envelope, and Any size other than A2.  Of course Hero Arts Products should be the focus of the card as well.


Masculine cards, can be quick or horrifyingly difficult.  I went with quick after all it was a scramble. So in 64 minutes this is what I came up with.

I went for a square card, so I inked up the Hero Arts Hexagon background with HA Navy ink and laid paper to stamp, I covered it with copy paper and rubbed it all about to get good ink transfer.  My card panel was A2 sized but I cut it down to 4x5 inches.  Next I took a 5.5 by 8.5 inch card base and trimmed it to be 5 x 8.5 with a score line at 3.5 inches from an end to make a top folding card base.  I overlapped my stamped piece on to the 3.5 inch side so that it overlapped quite a bit and left a 1 inch border at the top of the card that was white.  Next I inked up some paper, white heat embossed the birthday greeting and cut it to look like a tab and added it to the card front.  No embellishments...its a guy card...but I do have some navy sequins  which might be added later...still thinking about it.

Now for the envelope....I made my own and stamped the hexagons on it to cover the back flap and about an inch or so down the envelope front.  The edge ended abruptly on the stamp, so I added a 1/4 inch line with a B99 copic marker.  I am happy with the set and it's great to have a guy card in the stash.  I make make a few more of these in A2 size in green and gray.

Scrambling on the road

I am hosting a Scramble

Today I host the Scramble over at the Hero Arts Flickr group.  My theme was to create a focus panel, then CUT it up to make a card.  Sometimes we just need to have fun and make fast cards.  I made 3 panels and turned them into these 6 cards in less than two hours.  They are bright and cheery, and perfect for a quick little note.

Background Scramble

Another scramble at the Hero Arts Flickr Group, they always make for a good kick in the mojo department.  LaVon was our hostess this time and she tasked us with creating a background.

I used the Classic bloom Hero Arts stamp along with a sentiment from the very versatile Many Everyday Messages set. White heat embossing, brusho's for a messy look and to give it a bit of structure I made a round card mimicking the flower shapes.I used two dies from MFT,and one from Sizzix. It's a bit of whimsy.

24 hour Scramble

Hi there, I finally made it over to Hero Art's Flickr group for the Hero Arts scramble hosted by Betty.  She tasked us to make a card with hearts and using black and gold, a neutral white was also allowed.

I used all Hero Arts stamps and Hero Arts gold embossing powder. My focus panel was die cut with a die from WPlus9.

Scramble 146

It has been several months since I last scrambled, partly my travel schedule and partly the holiday break in the scramble schedule.  The scramble is hosted over at the Hero Arts Flickr group.  Today our hostess is Karen.  She tasked us with creating a card with our oldest Hero Arts stamp and using something around the house to create a background.

I grabbed some of that grippy shelf liner, the kind that is a bit spongy and is not solid.  I placed it on water color paper then spritzed water all over it.  I lifted it up and dumped some purple brusho on the semi wet card.  YUCK...it did not turn out at all as I imagined it.  So I tamped the shelf liner on the water color card to get more water on it for the brusho to spread.  Still YUCK...BUT then the shelf liner had color on it and I decided to lay that on a fresh piece of watercolor (not really I just turned the other piece over after heat setting it).  Yay, finally a background I liked and could work with.

My oldest Hero Arts stamp...or at least one of the first ones I bought is the Hydrangea. It is still a favorite and is on display in my craft space. I heat embossed it in white on thick vellum, then fussy cut it.  I used stragetically placed foam to mount the vellum piece and added a sentiment banner and sequins.

I am quite happy with how it turned out!

Scramble 144

Hi There!  Today I woke up with a bit of a snuffly nose and a few coughs.  I am hoping it is just morning stuff.  I was looking through blogs and found that Linda is hosting a 24 hour scramble today November 12, 2016 from 8 am pacific time to 8 am pacific time on Sunday November 13,  2016.  Here is a link to the challenge if you'd like to play along.   Scramble 144

I set the timer on my phone  90 minutes to create, photograph and upload the card to the Hero Arts Flickr group. The theme is a holiday card which must have a tree on it.  I grabbed my go to Hero Arts Happy Holiday Trees stamp and a second stamp set Greetings for the Holiday also from Hero Arts.  I thought the trees might look stunning in Simon's blue violet ink and mounted on the same shade of cardstock. The image was die cut with Simon's postage edge dies.

A bit of white satin ribbon and this card is done in less than an hour.

I am also entering this to Hero Arts Holiday Cardmaking Challenge which closes 11-15-16.

Another Scramble

Hi Friends,

Today I am hosting another scramble at the Hero Arts Flickr group. It just went live at 5pm edt, and will run until 6:30 pm edt.

I provided a sketch challenge to the crafters, a choice of two sketches to highlight their favorite Hero Arts Stamps, Stencil or die.

I made two sample cards.

Mix it up at Flickr

Chark hosted a scramble today, and her theme was mix it up. Use stamps and sentiments from different sets together.  This scramble is hosted at the Hero Arts Flickr group, and if you have followed my blog for any length of time, you know I love these challenges and it is how I started with cardmaking and blogging.

I am mailing a lot of cards lately and need flat ones so this is a perfect scramble theme for me.
 I used S5601 Newspaper Background (woodblock) ; the solid flower image from CL779 Night and Day Flowers, and a sentiment from CL487 Thank You for Being my friend.
 The flowers were colored with Memento markers in Angel Pink, Lulu lavender, Rose Bud, Cottage Ivy and Pear Tart. I used my MISTI to get color saturation on the blooms. The sentiment was inked with versa fine onyx black and the bits overlaying the colored image were outlined in white jelly roll pen ink to make it easily readable. And some pretty pink posh sequins in pink peony.

Scramble 129

Today Cindy hosed a scramble over at Hero Arts; it is actually a 24 hour scramble in which the participants can choose their own 90 minute creation time as long as the final card/project is posted by 3 PM EDT March 20, 2016.


Cindy's theme is inside out--to let a portion of the inside of the card show on the outside.  Here is my card:

I masked and stamped the blossoms several times along the side and bottom.  They were colored with copics, the sentiment is also from Hero Arts and the butterflies come in the dogwood blossoms set as well. Two of the butterflies are stamped on the card's interior panel and show through die cuts on the front card panel.  If you are inclined to play, here is the Scramble Link..

Scrambling again

This Saturday afternoon (at least on the east coast) Linda hosted a scramble in the Hero Arts Flickr group.  Her theme was  flowers and insects.  Hero Arts is also having a fabulous flowers challenge through the end of the month.  I decided to use the sketch at freshly made sketches.

We have 90 minutes to design, produce, photograph and upload our cards.  The time limit is good, it forces one to focus.  I love these scrambles when my mojo is low.  I unintentionally made two cards. I started the first one shown below, and wasn't happy with where it seemed to be going.  So I started the second one below. Once that was finished, I went back to the first and played a bit, and ended up liking it as well.

Scramble Love You

 I went over my blog reads and saw that Betty was hosting the latest scramble over at the Hero Arts flickr group. It was a 24 hour scramble, meaning participants could use any 90 minute period during that window of time. Yea, for me there is noting like a scramble to cure the no mojo blues!

She provided us with this lovely inspiration photo:

I loved that shade of pink and that white white pitcher. They were my inspiration.  About an hour and nine minutes later, my card was posted.

I love a little tone on tone background.  I fussed more with those darned sequins than cutting out the circle.

A fomula

Today I played in a Hero Arts Scramble. I have participated since October I think. I kept having conflicts.  Today I had a bit of a conflict as well, but this was a 24 hour scramble so I opened the scramble discussion on the Hero Arts Group page in Flickr, and set the timer on my Ipad.  Janet, our hostess, had a fun scramble for us.  It was a formula or recipe challenge. There were two choices. I went with choice number one.

2-colors (excluding neutrals)
0-die cuts
1-Hero Arts Stamp(background or image) or stencil (sentiments were freebies)
6-embellishments

I thought this was fun and clever on her part.  After 56 minutes and 33 seconds I had posted this card:

I started a list of the cards I need this week. 10 were on the list, 6 were made yesterday. This is the first of two birthday cards I need, and it also meets the "anything goes" over at Seize the Birthday, so I am entering it there.

Scrambling...still

Scrambling...as in Hero Arts card scramble. I participated in one last Saturday, and then we drove to Ohio to visit family. I am just returning and hope to catch up on blog visits.  Next week I leave for California, hubs has to work and won't be able to join me.

Our challenge for the scramble was to use an outline and a solid Hero Arts stamp to complete our card.

I managed two quick cards. (I'll be sending them to Hubs while on my trip). During our courtship I often sent cards to him. He often sent me flowers.  He is much better at keeping up the flower sending /bringing home than I am with the card sending.  So I make a special effort to do so when I am away visiting my Dad.

During the recent meteor shower, hubs and I went out to a dark spot and watched the sky for about an hour. We were pleased to have seen about 30 meteors, 12 or so of which were nice long streaks across the sky, so I think he'll enjoy the star card.

Vintage and Up in the Air

I had been thinking about the Up in the Air challenge over at The Male Room, and Saturday there was another of my beloved Hero Arts Scrambles the theme Cecilia gave us was Vintage. One of my favorite man-stamp sets is Hero Arts Past Times, and I really love the balloon in it.  ETA-This is also going to SOS-207 for the boys.

This is a smaller card, 3.5" x 4.5".

Supplies: SSS Circle Card Border, HA Past Times, HA All The Time, Distress Ink, Copic Markers, Clear EP, Brad, SU Card base, Foam Tape, Papers by Neenah & AC.

It's funny, I have had that circle card border die for a long time, and never used it.  So I sold it, but I made about 10 die cuts of it first just in case, and they are coming in handy.

Lucky Stars

Hubs and I went out to run errands last weekend, getting ready for our Easter meal.  When we returned home, I check flickr and found I was about an hour late for the Hero Arts Scramble...fortunately Charlene had extended the time for the scramble, so I was able to participate.  She gave us an inspiration photo -- dark woods against a beautifully colored sun setting  sky.  That sky portion inspired this card.

I used two Hero Arts stamp sets, and some Paper Smooches star die cuts.  The ribbon came from Stampin Up, and that sky was inked using distress inks.  There were many pretty cards created. If you are interested you can see the thread here.

On Saturday April 18th, I am hosting a 90 minute scramble at the Hero Arts Flickr group. You can check out the updates over the next few days at this link .
