Two Birthdays

Hi, it is good to be back with Hubs, and my crafty space.  I miss my dad and the furry boys...if only that teleportation thing were real!

While in California I did a bit of online shopping making sure all would arrive before I did.

One of my purchases was the MFT die set Jumbo Peek-a-boo Circles.  I think this is a fantastic set, especially for some of those smaller images.

So on to the cards:

For hubs, it's either trains or nature...This bird is from Stampin Up, the sentiment from Simon Says Stamp.

And there is something appropriately sweet and mushy inside.

Next, for our niece who loves her kitty Scout.  I colored Newton from Newtons Nook below to look like Scout down to his orange nose.  I also used a sentiment from Simon Says Stamp, and dies from Lawn Fawn and Pretty Pink Posh (isn't that bow sweet?)

Birthday

I am back from my trip to California to visit my Dad and do a bit of cat-sitting while he visited his sister in Iowa.  He returned in time to celebrate his birthday and of course I made a couple of cards for him. One from the boys and one from me.

My Dad puts the cards I make up on the fridge.  I find it ironic and funny. While I was growing up nothing went on the fridge-not even a magnet, but I suspect that was my Mom's preference.

On to the cards...

Hello

Here is the last card I colored in preparation for my trip to California. I wanted to keep posting while I was away.  This is my card for the September CCC, I mailed it very early and it should have arrived by now.

2015-09

I used the sketch (kinda sorta) my leaves were a bit bolder than I probably wanted them to be...but you can see the sketch in my card.

The hello and the flower centers are coated with wink of stella glitter then covered over with glossy accents for some dimension.  Difficult to see on the leaves but there are random small drops of glossy accents on them as well. I wanted the sentiment to be translucent, and I think it was achieved.  The flowers come from to older Hero Arts sets, the leaves are a Simon Says Stamp stencil, and the greeting is a fabulous set from WPLUS9.

I am betting by the time this posts, I will be missing my craft room quite a bit; but sad that I'll soon be saying until next time to my Dad.

Thanks so much for stopping by.

Birthday Flowers

This is my last week visiting my Dad.  I have three cards this week, all of them colored using Copic's.  During July I somehow found Kelly Latevola's blog...wow her colored images are
F A B U L O U S.  I am a lover of bright colors and she showcases them so well. I have been a follower ever since and never miss an opportunity to see her creations; and her You Tube videos are not to be passed by.

I was inspired to stop playing with my watercolors and pick up the Copics.  I liked the shadowing Kelly does but it will probably be quite a while before I get that flicking stroke down.  For the mean time, I am quite happy with my three colored cards this week.   So take a peek, and come back twice more to see them all! ;-)

The flowers are from Magenta, the sentiment is from WPlus9 and it has so many choices it is a must have set.  I love this option of something different than Happy Birthday!

Thanks for stopping!

Another Man Card

I guess this is a neutral card, could be for a man or woman. It just happens to be going to a man.  Its that last glimpse of summer...a September birthday.

I wanted the feeling of sitting at the beach...weather still nice but not to hot and all the kids have gone back to school. That kind of peace that only comes during September.

Golfing Birthday

My FIL likes to golf. Living in Ohio, his golfing season is much shorter than the one my Dad enjoys in California.  I wanted to make a fun golf inspired birthday card for him. I have used this stamp a couple of times but it has been a few years, so I figure it can come out and play again.

The golf ball and the sentiment are cut from fun foam; makes for a bit of silliness - just what a birthday card needs.  I poked at the ball a bit with a piercer so it would have some dimples.

Guy Get Well

Man cards...so tough sometimes.  I needed a get well/feel better card  quickly to mail out.  I really need to make a little stock pile of these cards that are gender neutral I think!

My fall back for guy cards is nature, mechanical images, and blues, greens, and browns...funny these are some of hubs' preferences...well all actually.

I stamped and embossed the tree, did some swishy watercoloring for the sky and ground. Then, some very pigmented watercoloring for the tree.  A stamped sentiment added once all was dry and a non girly shape applied via die cutting.  All matted on a heavy card base, so it appears framed.  I think it will be well received and hopefully the recipient will be well on his way to recovery once it arrives.

Napping Cats

As soon as I saw this stamp at Newton's Nook, I knew it would be coming to live in my stash.  I actually purchased it within hours of it becoming available. I am sending my Dad a card a week until I visit him and he loves the cat cards.  I mostly try to color them to represent Digger and Jack.

I stamped the stamp twice, colored it and fussy cut both. On the second stamped image, I cut only a portion to vary the look.  I can't send just one cat!  I found some perfect Lawn Fawn paper for the background. I also traced over all the lines with a black marker once it was colored.  It gives such a crisp image.  I love keeping the paws white, and I colored them with a white gel pen when everything else was done.

September is my blog anniversary month, and often the month I visit my Dad during the fall.  I get to see  him and my girlfriends and visit a few of my old stomping grounds. I will pre-post some cards while I am visiting since my card making supplies will be very limited.

A little birthday piggy

A long time friend of mine collects pigs. So, you know I have to send her a pig card right?  Just like my friends always send me cats.

I have had this Simon Says stamp set for almost a year, and have made two cards with it.  The snarky sentiments make me laugh...but I wouldn't want to hurt someone's feelings by sending it to them on a birthday card.  So, one more card and I will likely sell the set to make room for another.  But on to the card...

I have a bunch of kraft tags left from a project and I liked the idea of colored pencils on kraft so I went with it.

I had to add the googlie eyes, they make me laugh...too many sequins?..HOW? its a Birthday Card! It's meant to be celebratory and completely over the top. I wish I had put just a bit more color under the balloon before covering it with glossy accents. I am sure Lorie will laugh when she opens it, and I'll get a wonderful hug when I see her during my California trip in September.

Thanks for stopping!
